What is Choghadiya?
Choghadiya is Vedic Hindu Calendar, which shows astrological elements like Nakshatra, Tithi, etc. Choghadiya is an ancient astrological measure of time in India.
Cho – means four and Ghadi – stands for time. Choghadiya amounts to 24 minutes. Since it occurs 4 times in a day, it roughly equals to 96 minutes of the day. There are a total of 7 types of Choghadiya, of both types, auspicious and unfortunate.
What is the difference between a Muhurat and a Choghadiya..?
Muhurat is decided by studying the motions of planets and other divine factors. Muhurat is used mainly for marriages, starting a new business, or buying/shifting a new property. Choghadiya is simply a calendar that divides a day into 8 parts. It depicts both the Shubh and Asubh periods of the day.
Choghadiya comes every day, whereas a Muhurat may happen once in a week or month/s.
What is the Abhijit Muhurat?
Abhijit Muhurat occurs every day and lasts about 48 minutes. Abhijit means victorious, and Muhurat is an auspicious time. It is considered as very powerful and auspicious Muhurat of the day. If you cannot find any suitable Muhurat, then astrologers advise you to commence the work at Abhijit Muhurat. Abhijit Muhurat is capable of safeguarding your project from all evil energies.
What is Rahu Kaalam, and why is it inauspicious?
Rahu Kaalam or Rahu Kala is a particular period influenced by Rahu that exists every day. Rahu is one of the Navgraha – one of the 9 major astronomic bodies. It is responsible for causing eclipses. Rahu Kaalam lasts for 1 hour and 30 minutes, and its period varies daily. According to Vedic astrologers, an activity that takes place during Rahu Kaal is likely to be canceled or failed.
How is Rahu Kaal calculated?
To calculate the Rahu Kaal, the time between sunrise and sunset is divided into 8 periods. Rahu Kaal falls under different periods depending on the weekday, as mentioned below:
- Monday – 2nd Muhurat (time-period)
- Tuesday – 7th Muhurat
- Wednesday – 5th Muhurat
- Thursday – 6th Muhurat
- Friday – 4th Muhurat
- Saturday – 3rd Muhurat
- Sunday – 8th Muhurat
And, if daylight exists for 12 hours and the sun rises at 6 am, then below are calculated Rahu Kaal. These may change if the day is shorter or longer. Timings can be remembered easily with the mnemonic - Mother Saw Father Wearing a Turban Suddenly.
